Vitiligo specialists

Yongbo Jia, MD

Yongbo Jia, MD (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · vitiligo diagnosis · disease activity and topical treatment

Dr. Yongbo Jia is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its dermatology service at Chongqing West District Hospital — the lead physician of this site’s vitiligo content. A vice chief physician and licensed aesthetic attending, he graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and trained in dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and at Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

His practice is the medical control of vitiligo: confirming the diagnosis and excluding the conditions that mimic it, judging whether the disease is active or stable, choosing and monitoring topical treatment, arranging phototherapy, and screening for the autoimmune conditions that travel with vitiligo. He treats vitiligo as a long-term condition to be controlled over years rather than a problem to be solved in a single course.

Clinical focus

  • Confirmation of vitiligo and the conditions that mimic it, including pityriasis versicolor and post-inflammatory hypopigmentation
  • Assessment of disease activity, and the decision between stabilising treatment and repigmentation
  • Topical treatment of vitiligo, including the monitoring that prolonged steroid use requires
  • Screening for associated autoimmune conditions, particularly thyroid disease
  • Long-term follow-up of a condition that can relapse after treatment is stopped

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Jiusan Society
  • Member, Chongqing Integrative Medicine Skin & Beauty Committee
  • Advanced training at the Institute of Dermatology (Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) and Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Diagnosis first

Most vitiligo treatment failures trace back to a missed diagnosis or a plan that did not match how active the disease was. Getting the assessment right, and then staying with the plan, is what quietly produces results over months.

Ke He, MD

Ke He, MD (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin & laser aesthetics · phototherapy · pigment cell grafting

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Her service is the light and procedural arm of vitiligo care: targeted phototherapy and excimer light for localised and facial patches, the dose planning and cumulative dose tracking that narrowband UVB requires, and the assessment of which patches are suitable for pigment cell grafting. She manages phototherapy burns and pigment loss triggered by injury with particular care, because in vitiligo the injured skin is the skin that matters.

Clinical focus

  • Targeted phototherapy and excimer light for localised, segmental and facial vitiligo
  • Narrowband UVB treatment planning, session tracking, and cumulative dose review
  • Assessment of which patches are suitable for pigment cell grafting, and which are not
  • Management of phototherapy burns and of pigment loss triggered by injury
  • Full-cycle skin management: barrier repair and laser-based rejuvenation alongside vitiligo care

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

Light is a dose, not a session

Ultraviolet accumulates in the skin for life. Choosing the right wavelength and interval, tracking the total dose, and stopping when the response plateaus is what separates treatment from damage.

Tongchun Mao, MD

Tongchun Mao, MD (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · graft harvesting · refined closure

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

Within the vitiligo team his role is the surgical repigmentation of stable disease: raising donor blisters, placing mini-punches, and the fine closure that decides whether a treated area blends into the skin or announces itself. His aesthetic practice covers detailed facial-feature surgery, facial rejuvenation and body contouring, and the same precision serves vitiligo patients whose patches need grafting.

Clinical focus

  • Surgical repigmentation of stable vitiligo: suction blister grafting and mini-punch grafting
  • Refined excision and layered closure where a depigmented lesion has to be removed
  • Aesthetic reconstruction of depigmented areas on the face and other exposed sites
  • Operative planning around the Koebner phenomenon, so surgery does not provoke new patches
  • Detailed facial-feature refinement and repair (eyelid, nose, chin, lip)

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee
  • Published 5 SCI papers, holds 7 national patents, and has participated in 4 research projects
  • Repeatedly named an "Outstanding Young Physician" at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

The closure is the result

Once pigment cells are moved into an area, what remains is how the treated patch meets the surrounding skin. Fine technique, respect for aesthetic units, and careful aftercare decide whether that boundary fades or shows.

Shaoliang Wang, MD

Shaoliang Wang, MD (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · surgical repigmentation · complex repair

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, and brings more than two decades of tertiary-hospital surgical experience to his practice.

Within the vitiligo team he leads the surgical side: grafting for stable, well-defined patches, donor-site selection when larger areas need treatment, complex wound repair when depigmented skin is injured, and correction of failed or uneven results from earlier surgery — the operations where tissue must be moved and the repair must look as good as medicine allows.

Clinical focus

  • Surgical treatment of stable, well-defined vitiligo patches
  • Donor-site selection for melanocyte transplantation and for suction blister and mini-punch grafting
  • Complex wound repair and tertiary-hospital surgical support when depigmented skin is injured
  • Correction of failed or uneven results from earlier surgery (revision and reconstruction)
  • Surgical removal of skin tumors with margin control

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Craniofacial Surgery Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics & Beauty Committee
  • Standing Committee Member, Chongqing Medical Doctor Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Expert Panel, Chongqing Aesthetic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Developed a new endoscope- and water-jet-assisted technique for removing injected polyacrylamide (Aomingding) breast filler; awarded the Wang Liangneng Cup Military Excellent Scientific Paper Award
  • Principal investigator on an international cooperation sub-project, a Chongqing Natural Science Foundation grant, and a Third Military Medical University technology-transfer project; published 4 SCI papers and holds 8 national invention patents

A hospital-based advantage

When depigmented skin needs surgery, the tissue goes to the hospital’s own pathologists, and complicated cases draw on anaesthesiology, imaging, and intensive care. Practicing inside a tertiary general hospital means those resources stand behind every operation.
